MailScanner and Anti-Virus Protection:

Like most people on the Internet, we hate getting SPAM (unsolicited junk email).

We have incorporated a MailScanner system into our network system to pre-scan any incoming Grant County PowerNet email (email addresses ending in @gcpower.net) for viruses and SPAM.

Email that does not pass our MailScanner tests will be flagged as SPAM to assist you in managing them.

Email with the word {Spam?} in their subject lines can be easily filtered with an incoming mail filter rule in Outlook Express or Outlook and many other email client programs.

The usage of mail filtering rules enable you to automatically move messages into different email folders when they are downloaded to your system from our mail server.

Example of Setting Up a Rule in Outlook Express:

  • Open Outlook Express

  • Click on TOOLS at the top of the menu bar

  • Click on Message Rules

  • Click on Mail

  • Click on New

  • Choose: Where the Subject line contains specific words

  • Enter: {Spam?} or whatever word or phrase you wish to filter

  • Choose and action such as Move it to the specified folder or Delete it

  • Finish the rule and then test it to see if it works corectly.

  • You can create many different types of rules in your email client program (Outlook Express or Outlook) which will assist you in managing your incoming email. We recommend that you take some time to become acquainted with this feature of the software.

If you get a flagged message from our email servers that you do not understand please contact us so that we can help you with it. (509) 766-1345
